Youth incarceration and school pushout is an epidemic...how can a curriculum help?

Well first, this is more than a curriculum. It is your opportunity to participate in a community of teachers, counselors, and students hoping to change the narrative of incarceration for thousands of youth in our state.
​
This Virginia SOL aligned teaching tool is packed with visual art and stories by incarcerated youth in Virginia. Teachers, curriculum specialists, and advocates have worked together to source the teen's artwork as inspiration for a three part curriculum (KNOWLEDGE, EMPATHY, and ACTION).
The interactive curriculum will allow you to to bring the voices of incarcerated youth into your classroom, to raise awareness of the issues directly and indirectly contributing to the School to Confinement Pipeline, and to spark student engagement for change in their own schools and communities.

Spread the Newspaper in your community! The newspaper has been designed specif-ically to be cut up and turned into posters. Post them throughout your community space, school, gallery, storefront window, or city streets.
Do you train law enforcement? Teachers? Or other adults that work with youth?
We worked with incarcerated youth to create their own police training manuals and we do trainings.

We already know you want to be the best advocate you can for your students. We also know things are stressful. You're overworked. And it's difficult to always know your rights in the classroom.
